July Instructors ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  July 11---Mandy Ball will teach Bolero
*Lesson begins at 6:30 pm. July 25--- Dutch Schouten will teach Samba
*Lesson begins at 6:30 pm
Bolero and Samba tied for 4th place for most requested dance lesson! Due to the Ballgame our "Dance Lessons" will begin at 6:30 pm on July 11 and July 25.
- Please arrive a few minutes early so you can have your shoes on and be ready to dance! If you are not taking part in the lesson, we request you keep your conversations to a minimum to avoid distractions. Thanks. |
Video Lending Library ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Video Library is a service for Greater Daytona Chapter members; leave a $25. deposit (refundable-personal check okay) and check out a video for up to two months.
Paul Spano will have the video lending library open for 15 minutes after the 2nd mixer following our announcement break so that he may dance with all the lovely women during the mixer. For a complete list of video titles, go to our website. We've just added a few more! Video Library |
President's Message ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear Members,
Please be sure to check the table near the front door frequently for flyers and business cards of local vendors, dance instructors, and dance-related information. We are happy to display this information, when it is provided to our chapter, in an effort to keep you as informed as possible.
Thank you to those of you who attended our first Family Night. Based on the comments that came our way, a good time was had by all and we are already making plans for our second annual Family Night scheduled for Saturday, May 29, 2010. A special thank you to the students and staff of Daytona State College for the cultural entertainment and to the Officers and Board for their diligence in assuring a successful event. Well done!

Sebring Social ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Wish you could have joined us June 19 - 21, 2009, for the Sebring Social, dance weekend. This year's theme was Roman Holiday. We had a blast at the "Toga Party" on Friday. No one knew it was me when "Queen Cleo" arrived, it was fun seeing everyone dancing in their togas.
Marta Pascale led four workshops in Salsa, everyone liked the challenging steps, getting tangled up in their arms and having fun doing it. After the workshops and dance on Saturday we headed to the Cabaret Room and 'built our own ice cream sundaes', we unashamedly went through 3 gallons of ice cream in no time. Make plans to join us next year. Next year's theme is "Hollywood Dreams", with Friday night "Tacky Tourist" casual theme. Meet new friends from around the state and just have fun. This is an ALL INCLUSIVE weekend, meals and hotel all in one low price. Relax and enjoy the weekend with your friends!

Wounded Warriors Benefit ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Review of the Central Florida Chapter's Wounded Warriors Appreciation Ball, held Friday evening June 19:
- 225 dancers attended, including Region VI Vice-Pres. Richard Obney and Presidents from several nearby chapters (The Greater Daytona Chapter gave a special donation to our WWAB).
- We had five top-level dance numbers performed by the World Amateur Arthur Murray Nine-Dance Champions. We also had honored guests from the American Legion, and Army SPC Marcus Griffin (severely wounded in Iraq last November) and his family. A check for $1,000 for physical rehab equipment was given to SPC Griffin at the Ball, with standing ovation from all. Remainder of proceeds will be presented to the American Legion for its fund that helps severely-wounded Florida soldiers, at its Annual Convention in Orlando next week.
Our thanks to the Azalea Coast Chapter for leading the way with this theme. We plan to do a WWAB every year in June, between Flag Day and July 4th.

USA Dance Nationals on You Tube Channel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Enjoy the USA DANCE 2009 National DanceSport Championships - Baltimore on You Tube. USA Dance now has its own You Tube Channel under the name USADANCEINC. Go to http://youtube.com/usadanceinc and check out the videos. You can subscribe for FREE and the site will keep you up-to-date on all the great performances by USA DanceSport athletes as they are posted. Check it out . . . |
Love N Dancing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Love 'N Dancing, the great West Coast Swing Dance movie, played for two weeks at the downtown Orlando Plaza Cinema Cafe. Lots of our local dancers saw and enjoyed it.
